Program Description
Mindfulness is beginning to gain attention in different areas of life, one of which includes the field of education. It is rooted in simple principles, but it can be very difficult to incorporate in classrooms, psychology offices, parent meetings, and personal life. Its benefits include lowered stress/depression/anger, improved focus, increased happiness/perseverance/overall school performance. On a basic level, mindfulness helps individuals remain in the present while minimizing the negative impacts of dwelling on the past, fearing the future, and overthinking everything one does.
Angela Duckworth is the leading expert on grit. This presentation is based on her bestseller “Grit.” Much of her research confirms the value of working toward long term goals, perseverance in the face of adversity, staying focused, and overcoming failure. The former profession as a teacher led much of her research to focus on students, classroom, and teachers. This presentation highlights some of the book’s main points, research findings, and classroom strategies/approaches.
